From the southern deserts to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, our southern California expedition will transport you through remote wildernesses that vary from expansive open deserts to elevated mountain trails.
Covering over 800 miles in 7 days from Yuma, AZ to Benton Hot Springs, CA, this route closely follows California’s eastern border with Arizona & Nevada, incorporating a few sections across state-lines where the very best riding takes us.
Immediately on setting off from Yuma you’ll cross over the Colorado River into south-eastern California, to begin this incredible adventure through the Picacho State Recreation Area.
If you’ve ever wanted to perfect your riding in soft sand, this first section offers plenty of practice with alternate options for those less comfortable in difficult terrain.
Throughout this expedition you’ll be taken deep into California’s historical mining territory, with many of the trails being made up of legacy mining tracks, used by the early pioneers in the quest for untold riches.
Time is always afforded to absorb the rich history and fascinating structural artifacts, while also taking in the undeniable beauty of the barren wilderness.
Mojave National Preserve is sure to be one of the highlights of the ride. With terrain reminiscent of Joshua Tree National Park to the south-west, the trails are impeccable and worth savoring on route to the state line with Nevada.
The rugged mountainous terrain of Mojave and the Mesquite Wilderness Area is followed by a gradual descent into the remote landscape of Death Valley National Park.
You’ll ride the entire length of Death Valley for more than a day, at times dropping in elevation to almost 300ft below sea level. An area recorded as the hottest point on earth with air temperatures of 120℉ in July and August.
For this reason, we only offer this route outside of the summer months, finishing in May and beginning once again in October.
North of Death Valley the route gains elevation and takes in iconic locations such as Titus Canyon, Racetrack, Hunter Mountain and the Alabama Hills nestled in the shadows of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
By the time you reach Benton Hot Springs, you’ll have ridden through some of the best backcountry wildernesses Southern California has to offer. Not to mention being able to check off multiple ‘bucket-list’ rides!
